Sh. H.S. Sohal, Member, CGRF – BYPL on 01.02.2023.

Mr. H.S. Sohal, is an IFS officer of 1987 batch, UT Cadre. Mr. Sohal is Msc Botany, Gold Medalist from Lucknow University. He worked as teacher and as P.O. in Bank of India before joining Forest Service. Besides regular positions in forest department he also worked as Director Environment, science and technology. Considering his success in removing encroachments from forest land he was appointed special anti encroachment magistrate in Chandigarh.

Due to his tough actions as per newspaper reports, shopkeepers distributed laddoos when he was transferred from Chandigarh. Mr. Sohal has worked as associate professor Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, Asst. Director General, Indian council of forestry research Dehradun, director Mahatma Gandhi Institute of climate change Delhi and director Gurudwara elections.


He is among the rare officer who has on deputation worked as advisor environment to a mining company. He was chief vigilance officer engineers India limited and later on CVO of BSNL and MTNL.
He last year retired as PCCF Delhi Government. He has been awarded 2 commendation certificates by CVC for investigating high security number plate case and Faridabad Palwal cable laying case. He has written/edited 4 books on environment, behaviour and bio technology.
